Proposition V - Save JROTC Passes with Over 179,000 Votes
December 4, 2008
|
Congratulations to YES on Proposition V – Save Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (JROTC) Campaign. Not only did we exceed all expectations in June by submitting over 13,500 signatures to place Prop. V on the ballot, we successfully passed our initiative with over 179,000 voted - 54.5% of the electorate. The campaign is honored to have received the endorsement of diverse members of the community, numerous organizations, and the majority of local elected officials. This win is monumental considering it is the first time in recent history that San Franciscans have supported a program with a military connection.
The campaign strategy aimed to generate local and national coverage for Prop. V by highlighting the value of the JROTC program for its students and their families. An extensive public outreach campaign was launched to protect the students’ rights to participate in the program, after the SF Board of Education voted to eliminate it on political grounds. Our efforts included a viral campaign using Web 2.0 technology, while Facebook and other social networking sites were utilized extensively to organize. Blogs, online news comments, and forums allowed supporters to steer public discourse.
Thanks to everyone who supported JROTC as a choice for our students.

Congratulations Sharon Jackson and Dr. Hank Simmonds
November 5, 2008
|
Congratulations to Sharon Jackson and Dr. Hank Simmonds on their election to the Marin Healthcare District Board (MHDB).
The campaign was able to mobilize the community, as well as the doctors and nurses of Marin General Hospital, by creating a positive message and building consensus. While the press predicted a loss, we successfully elected both candidates to the MHDB. The effort was so successful we were able to oust Dr. Ramirez from the incumbency.
Along with Dr. Clever and Dr. Bedard, who were successfully elected in 2006, the Alliance to Save Our Hospital now has a four member majority on the five-person board. This will allow the MHDB to finally work together to successfully transition Marin General from Sutter Health management to an independent community hospital.

Support our Troops, Support Project Homecoming
October 24, 2008
|
We are proud to partner with Project Homecoming in their efforts to bring fallen soldiers home.
Freedom and liberty were fought for with the life and blood of our soldiers. Though they had no illusions of their chances for survival, there is an unspoken promise that we would do our utmost to bring them back home to their families and friends. "No One Left Behind" is more than a slogan; it is the principle that each soldier's sacrifice is significant and should not be forgotten.
While there are still over 100,000 soldiers unaccounted from numerous wars, the government brings home the remains of less than 100 MIA’s per year. Some remains have been left in foreign lands for decades. It is time we lived up to our promise and bring them home.
We have recently made great headway in our efforts to reach Congressional Representatives and veterans’ organizations. Support for Project Homecoming is continuing to grow.
